Poppy
Raw voice. Sharp instinct. Always one chord away from chaos.
Poppy is a passionate skateboarder who is on the verge of going pro. She rides longboard at a very high level and is always happy to teach Theo and Max new tricks - though not necessarily with endless patience. When the two of them fail to get it right straight away, she can be pretty outspoken. Poppy isn’t exactly the diplomatic type. She says what she thinks, has no problem with a bit of friction and can be quick-tempered at times. The good thing is, her anger usually disappears as quickly as it arrives. That fiery, straightforward personality brings a unique energy to the Gooroos. Poppy makes a living writing fortune-cookie messages. She regularly shares her favorites with her social media community. Some of her sayings even find their way into the Gooroos’ lyrics - after all, there’s sometimes less difference between a fortune cookie and a good punk song than you might think. Poppy sings with enthusiasm, is a decent guitar player and has a real talent for writing lyrics. When she hears about Theo's plan to start a punk band,there’s no question: she's in! She doesn't even have to think twice about it.
Theo
The gravity of the band. Deeper Sound, Deeper Sense.
Theo is a man of action. With his charismatic personality, he brings the most diverse characters together and is a natural-born bandleader. He plays the double bass with passion, sings and writes his own songs. Punk is his music - and his attitude. He is the one who brings the Gooroos together and keeps making sure that three very different characters become a band. When tensions arise between the others, Theo is the one who mediates and keeps the group together. With his seemingly endless energy, he is the driving force behind the band and the one who gets things moving. Theo shows a completely different side of himself when he draws. He is passionate about portraying his cat, Mr. Fromble, whom he not only draws but also loves to style. He is particularly proud of Mr. Fromble’s colorful mohawk. Over time, his drawings grow into entire comics filled with adventurous stories. Recently, skateboarding has also become one of his hobbies. The talented Poppy is always teaching him new tricks, which Theo takes on with great ambition. Alongside music, skating has become another passion that brings the Gooroos together.
Max
Loud when it matters. Silent when it hits harder.
Max is a grown-up kid at heart, with a camera in one hand and drumsticks in the other. His dream is to become a drummer. He lives for high-energy rhythms and is just starting his studies at the Punk Rock Academy. Along the way, he meets two kindred spirits, Theo and Poppy - and together, they are ready to really get things moving. While others document their everyday lives on social media, Max stages his. His actors are tiny plastic figures. Through his stop-motion reels, he creates stories full of humor, self-irony and social commentary. To Max, filming is a childlike sense of curiosity and discovering the best stories in the seemingly insignificant moments of everyday life. His films are a reminder that playing isn’t a matter of age, but a way of looking at the world. Skateboarding is another one of his passions. On his board, he loves the feeling of freedom and the courage to try new tricks - even when not every attempt goes according to plan. For Max, music, skateboarding and stop motion aren’t separate passions, but different ways of expressing the same idea: making the world a little more colorful through creativity, playfulness and a healthy dose of humor.
